October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and events are planned in St. Lawrence County to promote screening and support for people affected by cancer.
The Gouverneur Breast and Ovarian Cancer Fund will hold its 25th annual walk Oct. 3 at Gouverneur Village Park. Registration is scheduled for 8 a.m., with opening ceremonies at 10:15 a.m. The fund has helped more than 1,400 patients over its history, including with medical, insurance, travel and household expenses.
A mobile mammography bus is also scheduled to visit St. Lawrence University on Oct. 14. Free screenings will be available to women age 40 and older, with or without insurance. County officials are encouraging residents to pursue regular screenings and other breast-health care.
