Jefferson Community College in Watertown has received an $8,000 SUNY Outdoors for All grant to create a campuswide outdoor equipment hub and expand beginner-friendly outdoor programming.
The college plans to offer activities including downhill skiing and whitewater rafting. The grant is part of a SUNY program that awarded grants of up to $8,000 to 14 campuses, according to SUNY's announcement.
JCC is a public community college at 1220 Coffeen Street in Watertown. Its campus is near opportunities for skiing and whitewater rafting, and the college serves students in the North Country.
The Outdoors for All program began in 2025, when 13 SUNY campuses received $8,000 grants. Previous North Country recipients included SUNY Adirondack, SUNY Canton and SUNY Plattsburgh.
JCC Director of Student Life Matt Gorman said the activities are intended to help students spend time outdoors, remain active and support their health and studies. He hopes to begin some programming in November 2026. The college has not announced a specific date or schedule.
