Potsdam has completed a downtown project involving streetscape improvements, the Raquette Riverwalk and a branding campaign through the village’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative. The project was announced by New York Secretary of State Walter T. Mosley and carries a reported cost of $5.31 million, including the branding work.
The work covers Market, Raymond and Maple streets and the Raquette Riverwalk. The state has described the riverwalk as a looped trail around the village’s three downtown bridges. Potsdam received $10 million through the Downtown Revitalization Initiative in October 2019, and groundbreaking for the state-funded Market Street work was held April 2, 2026.
The village plans a public completion celebration from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at the corner of Raymond and Market streets near 35 Market St. The event will also highlight local businesses. Questions about the project can be sent to development@villageofpotsdamny.gov.
Mosley also visited Canton in connection with demolition of the Midtown Plaza. Demolition began during the week of Oct. 5, 2026, as part of redevelopment plans for the long-vacant property. The village bought the plaza in 2023 and selected the Vecino Group in July 2024.
