New York plans to move to a single diploma beginning with the class of 2028, with additional credit and graduation requirements phased in later.

New York plans to replace its three high school diplomas with a single diploma beginning with the class of 2028. Students will no longer be required to pass Regents exams to graduate, although they may still take the tests.
A new credit requirement is scheduled to begin with the class of 2031, whose students will start high school next fall. The state also plans to adopt new graduation requirements called Portrait of a Graduate beginning in 2029. New York says the framework is intended to create more pathways for students and better prepare them for success.
