Ogdensburg Free Academy was locked down Thursday, Oct. 15, after police received a report of a man with a gun on State Street near the school. The lockdown ended by about 1 p.m., and the school reopened, according to Ogdensburg Police Chief Mark Kearns.
Kearns said police were told the man was pointing the gun at motorists. The school was locked down as a precaution, he said, and police took the man into custody without incident. Charges are pending.
The weapon appeared to be a BB revolver, according to police. OFA is at 1100 State St.
The Ogdensburg Police Department serves about 13,000 people across eight square miles and lists 20 sworn officers. Police can be reached for non-emergency matters at 315-393-1551 or at 800 Park Street.
A previous lockdown at OFA occurred Feb. 1, 2024, after a student reported someone with a gun on campus. Police searched the building and found no threat. In a follow-up the next day, the school district said there had been no weapon or threat on campus and offered counseling.
Updates are available through the Ogdensburg Police Department and the Ogdensburg City School District.
