Potsdam and state officials marked the completion of downtown streetscape and Riverwalk projects with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Oct. 15, 2026. Secretary of State Walter T. Mosley attended the event at the corner of Raymond and Market streets.
The work covers portions of Market, Raymond and Maple streets and includes new sidewalks, lighting, landscaping and drainage improvements. The Riverwalk connects downtown with Fall Island and the Raquette River.
The projects were funded through New York’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative, administered by the state Department of State. The state described the work as a $5.26 million project, while the completion announcement described the cost as $5.31 million.
Potsdam received a $10 million DRI award. Other projects supported through the award include downtown branding, an expansion of the North Country Children’s Museum and a revolving fund for grants and rent assistance.
Construction began with work on Raymond Street and the Sandstone Art Walk in fall 2025. A groundbreaking for the broader project was held April 2, 2026, at Market and Elm streets. The remaining Riverwalk features include a skate park, shared-use path and mural walk.
